A Brief History of Tomos Moped

Tomos moped is another brand which manufactures scooters. It is a Slovenian company called Tomos and is located in the city of Koper. Mainly, the company’s target market is the Eastern European market where they are selling their cars, mopeds, motorcycles, boats and outboard motors. However, the most common products of the company are their mopeds. In order to produce their existing Puch model mopeds, the company acquired a license to sell it under their brand name.

Since 1966, the mopeds of Tomos are also being produced in a city in the Netherlands called Epe. One of the best selling mopeds of the company was the 4L, which was manufactured between1969 until 1980. Today, Tomos is the only remaining factory for mopeds in the Netherlands. It has survived a minimum of 36 rivals ever since 1966.

The name of the brand is an acronym for the Slovene language of TOvarna Motrnih koles Sežana, which means Motorcycle Company Sežana. Aside from being the only real moped supplier in the market of the United States; Tomos continues being a strong and reliable company along with their many innovations. If you will have your moped repaired with them, it is pretty cheap and simple, if you consider that buying a new unit will only cost you about $1099-$1899.

Back in November 2007, there was a rumor that the moped factory closed down because it no longer was able to compete against its Chinese and Indian rivals. This caused a big stir for a few days in the community of Tomos. Fortunately though, this was only a rumour and was nothing close to being accurate. People only mistranslated the message Tomos released. The company was not ending their production; they were only outsourcing their moped parts.

Throughout the years, the new models which were released by the company included the MC Off Road Series, Arrow, Revival and the Streetmate. In 2006, these new models were complemented with the new family engine which was called the 155. Because there was a stricter EPA emission, the company increased all of A55 engine on every 2007 model. As of 2008, Tomos moped has been able to meet and even exceed the standards and requirements of EPA. In order to meet the new demands of the market, the company continues to modernize their mopeds in their original location which is Koper, Slovenia even up to this current time and date.
